Truckee
Truckee is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California just west of the Nevada State line and the city of Reno. Interstate 80, the major east-west trans-sierra "all weather" highway passes through the town of Truckee between California and Nevada.
Donner Lake, renamed after the Donner Party, the most famous tragedy in the history of western migration, is located within the town limits just east of Donner Summit pass. Donner Lake was originally called "Truckee's Lake" reportedly after a French Canadian trapper, "Truckee", who was traveling with the Bonneville-Walker group in the 1830's.
Truckee offers everything from the charm of the old west to modern day eclectic.
The Town of Truckee is centrally located to ski resorts, and is the gateway to North Lake Tahoe, which makes it an ideal place to vacation or re-locate. Reno is 30 miles east on I-80, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are 12 miles south along the Truckee River on Hwy 89. Northstar Ski Resort is a short 9 miles away on Hwy 267 through Martis Valley which passes by the Tahoe Truckee Airport and spills into Kings Beach on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Tahoe.
